Yemi Kolapo installed as Iyalode Musulumi of Egbaland

The governors of Ogun and Kogi states, Dapo Abiodun, and Yahaya Bello, respectively have congratulated the newly installed Iyalode of Egba Community Muslims, and Managing Director of The Point Newspaper, Oyeyemi Kolapo.

The governors felicitated her on Saturday, January 13, 2024, during the installation ceremony at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to the governors, the installation of Kolapo as the Iyalode of Egba Muslims was a well-deserved honour, and a testament to her life of service as a devout Muslim with strong morals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Abiodun, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, noted that the Egba Muslim community would benefit from the Iyalode’s invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to service. He expressed his confidence that her wealth of experience will equip her to discharge her duties accordingly.

He said, “As the brand new Iyalode of Egba Muslims, I am confident that your wealth of experience and personal attributes including courage, philanthropy, tenacity and focus will undoubtedly equip you to discharge the duties of this new role.

“The Egba community are sure to benefit from your invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to service on this higher pedestal.”

Also speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bello, who was represented by Senator Abubakar Ohere, stated that the installation of Kolapo had shown that Egbaland had not deviated from its age-long culture of rewarding excellence and brilliance, noting that the new Iyalode had represented the Egba spirit very well in every capacity she had found herself.

Earlier in his message, the Mufasiru of Egbaland, Taofeek Amolegbe, congratulated Kolapo, who was the first female business editor of The PUNCH, and urged her to continue being a coordinator of the people around her.
