Many things change with time. Some from good to bad, others vice versa. Some others just simply morph into a better form, and this can be said to be the case with Boochi’s artistry, as evident in his new single titled ‘Human’.
Since his introductory extended play record in 2022 titled ‘Fame’, Alphonsus Moses Abuchi who is more popularly known simply as “Boochi” has had enough time to better discover his sonic style, unique songwriting approach and artistic delivery. And he has poured all of these acquired skills into his latest drop.
The song, Human, takes its name from its core message. The record aims to tell a story about the imperfections of being a mortal human being, and how – unlike most people think – that is in itself beautiful. This strong message needed to wear a presentable melodic outlook, and Boochi delivered with both melodies and rhythm.
It can typically be described as afrobeats, or more specifically afro-piano which is a more Nigerian version of amapiano, popular for its recent global appeal and perfectly putting Boochi in a spot where his potential for world attention is very tangible.
In the very much saturated space that Nigeria’s music scene is, finding emerging artists with a matured sound and an equally sensational delivery is usually a chore, but Boochi makes it easy to find one, as can be confirmed by Human.
Human is two-and-a-half minutes of vulnerability, laced with a feel-good vibe and clear communication. Its original-yet-with-commercial-appeal elements makes it a perfect product by the artist at this point of his career, cementing his place as one act to look out for in the coming months.
When asked what he would like listeners to feel every time they listen to Human, Boochi said:
“The country [Nigeria] already demands so much from us to stay afloat. I hope this song teaches people to understand that no one is perfect and we all deserve to give ourselves a little grace,” his speech as clear in comprehension as his songwriting.
“I want people to listen to Human and feel a little hope. And fingers crossed, this hope and the groovy beat gets them up on their feet and dancing.”
