Friday 10th November 2018, was a tragic day for Nigerians living in South Africa, as gunmen shot dead one of our own, a Nigerian businessman identified as Sam Abioye.
Sam Abioye hails from a wealthy family from Ife, in Osun State here in Nigeria and is related to Hon. Aregbesola. The deceased was murdered by unknown gunmen in his home in Sandton, Johannesburg, in South Africa. It is alleged that the 33-year-old murder victim, had been trailed by the gunmen for a couple of days prior to the killing. An anonymous source has confirmed that the deceased, along with a few close associates were involved in the notoriously dangerous and risky, taxi business (The South African Taxi Industry is known to be controlled by a group of uneducated hardcore that intimidate and kill at will). It is alleged that the killing is linked to the ongoing taxi war and the fact that the deceased (alongside his best friend) is known to have secretly maintained homosexual relationships with certain powerful people, who would not want the truth to come out.
Sam Abioye is survived by his wife and young child, who were not in South Africa at the time of the murder. The deceased will be flown to Nigeria, where he will be buried by family and close friends, in his home in Osun State.
A case of murder has been opened at the Linden Police Station, in Johannesburg South Africa, where Nigerians gathered with representatives from the Johannesburg Association of Nigerians to get answers from the local police. They are mourning and grieving, and asking questions, how much more will the killing of foreigners, especially of Nigerians, make the South African government do the right thing?
Even though the South African police have promised to collectively work together with the local community, to bring those that are behind this heinous crime, to justice. There is so much skepticism amongst Nigerians that they will actually do anything about the murder.
